Have I Learnt Enough Buddhism?

Question: How do I know if I have learnt and practised the Buddha’s teachings well enough in this life?

Answer: Of course, you should know how to handle all matters in life with Buddhism, its trials and tribulations.

However, most importantly, for longer term benefits in mind, you should also know how to handle that inevitable at the end of life — the dying and post-death process of yourself and others, by ensuring there is reaching of where (i.e. Āmítuófó’s Pure Land: 阿弥陀佛之净土) there will be the swiftest progress to Buddhahood (since Buddhahood is too difficult to attain directly).

To know if your confidence is well-founded, there should be fruitful facilitating of someone else’s (i.e. a family member) dying and post-death process. This is to apply the know-how of your own personal final Buddhist practice in this life, on another. Witnessing others pass the final ‘test’ of dying well, you will be more confident that the practice will work well for you too.
