[1] Worth
What makes life worth living?
The opportunities it offers
for learning to transcend
the cycle of birth and death.
[2] Freedom
Nobody gets to live for free.
Nobody gets to die for free either
(without karmic consequences),
unless freed from rebirth already.
[3] Appreciation
Death urges us to appreciate life,
hopefully in time, before it arrives,
and thus to aspire,
to transcend redeath too.
[4] Today
If you only have one day to really live,
how will you live?
What if this is your one (last) day now?
Who is to say this isn’t?
[5] Bliss
Life is not always painful,
but life can be painful too,
while liberation from life and death
is always blissful.
[6] Salvation
What’s the point if you cannot save all?
The point is that doing your best,
can save yourself first,
and help save others too.
[7] Value
Life (in rebirth) always ends.
That’s what gives it value,
making it invaluable and priceless,
although death (as redeath) always ends too.
[8] Eternity
Immeasurable life (无量寿) is possible
in Āmítuófó’s (阿弥陀佛) Pure Land (净土),
to live on, for fulfilling the unfulfilled,
without being trapped in rebirth.
