How To Better Your Life?

Karmically speaking,
to not harm others is
to not harm oneself too.

— Shilashanti

There was a guy
who wanted to improve his life.
In fact, he wanted a quick fix.

He says he keeps losing his jobs,
though he does get to land jobs
.
So, is the fault with him or the jobs?

When encouraged to commit to the Five Precepts
of not killing, stealing, having sexual misconduct,
lying and taking intoxicants
, he however hesitates.

As if it is too challenging,
as if he still wishes to break some precepts,
though he has yet to commit to any.

But how do you karmically better your life,
if you do not become a better person first
,
with observation of basic moral guidelines?

When you vow to improve others’ lives
by never harming them with broken precepts,
you will karmically improve your life
too.

Karmically speaking,
to help others is
to help oneself too.
