What Is The Buddhist View Of UAPs (UFOs)?

Question: How should Buddhists relate to the increasing evidence of UAPs‘ (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, previously called UFOs: Unidentified Flying Objects) existence worldwide?

Answer: Due to their manners of movement in many highlighted cases, it is rather clear that they are intelligent in nature, or controlled by intelligent beings. Since they are of origin not known to humans, it is very likely that they are operated by extraterrestrial beings.

These beings can be aliens from other planets and such. The Buddha’s teachings are all along open to the existence of many forms of non-earthly beings in the universe’s other galaxies and such.

There is also the possibility that UAPs are gods (devas and brahmas) and/or their vehicles, from the same world-system (i.e. galaxy) as ours, as they are known to be bright beings with ease of travel with their supernormal powers and divine vehicles.

Whoever the UAPs’ operators are, we should simply continue our Dharma learning and practice diligently. Their appearances only remind us that the universe is a very vast and mysterious place indeed. Yet, with realisation of the Dharma in good time, the mystery of what UAPs really are will be solved once and for all.
