见严饰人,当愿众生,
三十二相,以为严好。
见无严饰,当愿众生,
舍诸饰好,具头陀行。

Seeing magnificently adorned persons,
[reflect that] ‘May sentient beings,
[have the] thirty-two forms,*
as [their] excellent adornments.’**
Seeing [those] without magnificent adornments,
[reflect that] ‘May sentient beings,
renounce all fine ornaments,
[to be] complete [with] ascetic practices.’***
