Verses On Adornment



– 文殊菩萨
(华严经: 净行品: 第78-79偈)

Seeing magnificently adorned persons,
[reflect that] ‘May sentient beings,
[have the] thirty-two forms,*
as [their] excellent adornments.’**

Seeing [those] without magnificent adornments,
[reflect that] ‘May sentient beings,
renounce all fine ornaments,
[to be] complete [with] ascetic practices.’***

* which are physical features of Buddhas
** as the forms arise due to many virtues
*** for training frugal living with non-attachment to clothing, food and shelter
