If you do not know
what is enough,
how will you
ever have enough?
Shilashanti
If you are to die with
a cent in your pocket,
you would have died
a single cent too much,
with it yet to be spent,
or given away in time.
And there is truly
a very low chance
for you to really die
with just one cent,
with you almost surely
going to die too rich.
The problem now
is trying to decide
how many cents
to get to feel alright,
to do well enough,
even if not well-to-do.
It is actually easy
to have enough,
while it is difficult
if you keep wanting
more than enough,
just for wanting’s sake.
Health is the most precious gain
and contentment the greatest wealth.
A trustworthy person is the best kinsman,
Nibbana the highest bliss.
The Buddha
Dhammapada (Verse 204)
