While humans struggle and strive
to tame and rule wilderness,
they often forget to tame themselves.
The sparking of wild rage within,
given enough time and fuel,
can become ‘untamable’ wildfires without.
The first beasts to tame are not animals,
but greed, hatred and delusion inside,
before they leap beyond, to the outside.
Thus are the Buddhas called
‘Tamers Of Humans’ (and all others),
those humans once, who first tamed themselves.
