To be truly conquered by the evil
is to be transformed by them,
to lose that good and pure,
to be evil too.
Shilashanti
Goodness is stronger than evil
because its meritorious virtues
can be dedicated
to benefit all.
Evil is weaker than goodness
because its demeritorious non-virtues
cannot be ‘dedicated’
to harm anyone.
Why does evil then
seem to defeat good at times?
This is when the good is not good enough,
with remnant evil in this present life, from past lives too.
How do we know then,
that good enough good
will surely conquer evil,
to have faith in good?
Remember there are those so good,
that they are completely pure,
who are all Buddhas,
none of whom ever lost, to any of Mara’s armies.
To truly conquer the evil,
is to transform them
to lose that evil,
to be good and pure too.
