Max: These days I also raise a little money, you know, for the party.
Johnny: Don’t look at me. I’m apolitical.
Max: You’re ‘a-everything’, aren’t you, Johnny? You’ll have to choose sides one day, you know. Remember, you will get killed in the middle of the road.
Is it possible to be apolitical about everything? Is there anything totally non-political in nature in this defiled world? Even passivity can have direct or indirect political effects. What we choose to think, say and do, what we choose to not think, not say and not do, can karmically make or break yourself and others.
As Hannah Arendt wrote,
‘Most evil is done by people
who never make up their minds
to be good or evil.’
It is said that,
‘All that is necessary
for the triumph of evil
is that good men do nothing.’
But if good men do nothing,
are they even good men?
They might not be downright evil men,
but are they men good enough?
