Questions:
(1) How do we go about being compassionate to ourselves, and
(2) How to know if we are so?
Answer:
Very broad questions!
(1) We can do so by taking good care of ourselves physically and spiritually. Physically, as in having enough nutrition, exercise… Spiritually, the nutrition would be by continually learning the Dharma, and the ‘exercise’ would be putting it into practice.
(2) We can tell if we are kind enough to ourselves by checking our physical health and mental happiness. Are we often too tired, sick, depressed… ? If so, it doesn’t mean we should just indulge in pleasures – recall the Middle Path… We should live moderately as in by not punishing or indulging ourselves needlessly.
