Is ‘G_d’ willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent (i.e not omnibenevolent).
— Epicurus (Part 1)
One might first assume
that there is a [0] perfect creator,
who is [1] omnibenevolent (all-loving),
[2] omniscient (all-knowing)
and [3] omnipotent (all-powerful)?
But if there is a [0] perfect creator
with [1] omnibenevolence,
why is there so much cruel pain and suffering,
from birth to death for so many,
or is there is no such being?
But if there is a [0] perfect creator diety
with [2] omniscience,
why is there so much ignored pain and suffering,
from birth to death for so many,
or is there no such being?
But if there is a [0] perfect creator diety
with [3] omnipotence,
why is there so much overwhelming pain and suffering,
from birth to death for so many,
or is there no such being?
One might thus conclude
that there is no [0] perfect creator diety,
who is [1] omnibenevolent,
[2] omniscient
and [3] omnipotent?
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him ‘G_d’?
— Epicurus (Part 2)
