Should We Try To Recall Past Lives Now?

Question: Is it wise to delve into past lives with ‘hypnosis’ to resolve buried issues?

Answer: It is not a good idea to do so. Even if this really works, there can be many ‘cans of worms’ opened up, with overwhelming traumas that are not manageable, adding on to present problems in this life. More reasons to avoid this can be seen at https://moonpointer.com/new/2010/02/countless-imaginary-past-lives.

Such ‘therapists’ seldom offer genuine past life recollection, as even many high spiritual practitioners cannot recall their own past lives. This thus becomes clients paying to be guided, to subconsciously spin their own stories as catharsis for their own issues, with the stories not aligned with reality. This is not unlike fiction writers creating fictitious situations with fictitious traumas for real persons.

Ironically, these ‘therapists’ might not know they are offering genuine service too. If both parties are hooked to such services, there will be no end to wasting of time, effort and money to solve imaginary problems. We just need to reflect on past experiences in this life to learn what we can well, and live in the present to move forward well, with more diligent Dharma learning and practice.

Upon reaching of Āmítuófó’s (阿弥陀佛) Pure Land (净土) at the end of this life, we can naturally recollect all past lives clearly, as empowered by the Buddha. There, we will be able to learn from all missed lessons swiftly, with great insights from many hindsights. With equanimity of mind, such recollection will be truly therapeutic and even enlightening. There will be no need to pay any ‘therapist’ too!
