The First Lesson(s) Of The Buddha-(To-Be) For Us

‘How to die and be reborn well’ is the most practical Dharma, because you will die and be reborn, since you will not be enlightened in this lifetime.

— Shilashanti

The First Lesson Of The Buddha-To-Be:

Prince Siddhārtha, as the Buddha-to-be,
upon becoming aware,
that everyone, like himself,
were ageing,
will become sick
and will die,

urgently renounced the kingdom
to seek the path to liberation
,
because it was a race against time, impermanence.
We are perishing
little by little as we speak,
and we might depart before we are ready.

The First Lesson Of The Buddha:

Śākyamuni Buddha,
upon becoming awakened,
on how himself and others,
can transcend ageing,
sickness
and death,

urgently taught the Dharma
to share the path to liberation
,
because it was a race against time, impermanence.
We are perishing
little by little as we speak,
and we might depart before we are ready.

‘How to die and be reborn well’ is the most practical Dharma, because you can die and be reborn at any time, including now.
