Question: Someone asked if a movie with Buddhist themes is based on a ‘true’ story. How should I answer?
Answer: Unless it is a proper documentary filmed with sound research, story-based movies tend to be dramatised, as is the case for most movies, for entertainment value. Never try to learn the Dharma from such movies, as it will be hard trying to separate fact from fiction, to sift the Right Dharma from inaccurately presented Dharma. If still watching, it might be better to research on the actual teachings first. It should be noted that if such films are shared with those who do not know that is the Right Dharma, they might become confused.
