沙门问佛：「以何因緣，得知宿命，会其至道？」
佛言：「净心守志，可会至道。譬如磨鏡，垢去明存。断欲无求，当得宿命。」

A Śramaṇa asked the Buddha, ‘With what cause [and] condition, attains knowledge of past lives, and understanding of that ultimate path?’
The Buddha said, ‘With the pure mind guarding your aspiration, can you understand the ultimate path. For example, when polishing a mirror, when its dirt is eradicated, brightness remains. Severing desires without seeking, will attain knowledge of past lives.’
