We Are Our Own Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

Being part of society,
you shape the way it is
with the way you are.

‘A self-fulfilling prophecy is an assumption or prediction that, purely as a result of having been made, cause the expected or predicted event to occur
and thus confirms its own “accuracy”.’ – Paul Watzlawick

Without calm and clear checking,
and with irrational fear
that there will be not enough essentials,
a few individuals decided to buy and hoard them.

A few other individuals saw this
and felt they should do the same,
which spurred more to do likewise,
creating viral panic buying and hoarding.

More saw more empty shelves
and concluded that it must be so
that there are truly not enough essentials,
as they anxiously looked out for restocking of them.

As more quickly panic bought and hoarded,
the more quickly were the shelves emptied,
leading to even more fear and panic,
with squabbling and fighting for stocks once restocked.

Even if originally with enough
for the reasonable needs of everyone,
there will never be enough
for the insatiable greed of just a few.

The confused fear is Delusion,
the third of the Three Poisons,
that gives rise to the first two poisons,
of Greed for more, and Hatred of others similar.

Being part of society,
you also shape the way it is
with the way you are not.
