Question: It is unfortunate that there are some persons, who like to tell others that they are staunch ‘Buddhists’, when their behaviour is far from good. What should we do?
Answer: The truth is that there are bad examples in every religion. The best way to counter them is by us being more prominent good examples with our personal learning and practice. When asked about bad examples by others, we should explain why they are not exemplary, to avoid confusing of bad behaviour as proper Buddhist conduct. If possible, this should be explained to the bad examples too.
