Question: How do I make my own personal spiritual vows?
Answer: You can announce your vows before a Buddha image in a proper Buddhist temple while kneeling, prostrating once upon saying each vow. If you wish to further express the sincerity and seriousness of your vows, invite Buddhists to witness your vowing. (If you wish to keep it private, you can do so at your home shrine.)
If your vows are in terms of Buddhahood, they should on the whole be for benefiting all beings, to guide them to Buddhahood, and with this structure – ‘If I should not _______ (insert vow’s essence), I shall not attain Buddhahood.’
If your vows are not in terms of Buddhahood, they should have this structure – ‘I will _______ (insert vow’s essence), until _______________ (insert clause for expiry).’
