The tale of ‘Macbeth (2015)’ is one of those classic tales that simply have to be retold for all generations. It warns of the perils of listening to ambiguous soothsayers, witches, mediums and such. As in his case, given some vague predictions, he rationalises them to spell his destiny for greatness. He listens to what he wishes to hear, (mis)interpreting it according to his ambitious greed. Of course, it did not help that his lady ‘adviser’ was perhaps more ambitious.
Delusions of grandeur are used to justify evils to be done. He ends up selfishly fulfilling what he wants, while denying the harsh reality about his character. Romanticism of a great ‘fixed’ destiny ahead proved physically and spiritually deadly. Such rationalisation of one’s greed, hatred and delusion is what sends folks into a tailspin, a descent into madness. Hallucinations due to inner demons from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from war was hinted too.
As always, in the past, present and future, the only destiny that manifests is dependent on how we handle this moment. This means there is no fixed destiny to speak of, unless one is already on the highway to enlightenment. The ‘ghost’ of destiny makes a fool of no one, while we are our own fools who mess up our destinies. But take heart, for we can clean up the mess too. Remember – while past karma ripens, our present attitude to it and choice of action re-charts our future! Destiny has always been, and will always be in our charge.
