One will obtain a long life oneself.

The freed being’s life would not benefit entirely without him being planted the seeds of Triple Gem refuge on behalf, and listening to Buddha name or sutra chanting.
Long life oneself in this Saha world without knowing its Buddha nature is same as having freed a being led to the slaughterhouse whose life is thus benefited.
It’s good to save physical lives.
It’s better to save spiritual (wisdom) lives too.
