 Quote: Losing Time

  If you are now living
  longer than expected,
  why waste 'extra' time?

  If you are now dying
  sooner than expected,
  why waste remaining time?

Realisation: Why Is It Better To Give Than To Receive?

不知足者 Those who not know contentment,
虽富而贫 even if rich, they are however poor.
知足之人 Those who know contentment,
虽贫而富 even if poor, they are however rich.

– 佛陀 The Buddha
   (遗教经 Sutra Of Bequeathed Teachings)

Two ghosts await to be reborn human.
King Yama gives them an ‘either or’ choice.
One is to become a giver to others,
and the other a receiver from others.

The first quickly asks to receive while the second is silent.
The King announces his verdict -
the first will be born poor but able to beg from others,
the second will be born rich and able to give to help others.

The verdict was but the expression of their karma.
It is through intentional thoughts, words and deeds,
that we sentence ourselves to reap what we have sown.
All is fair with no one else to blame.

If you only want, you will never receive. (沒舍沒有得)
Those who keep wanting without giving seldom get much.
If you sincerely give, you will surely receive. (有舍才有得)
Those who keep giving without wanting often get much.

Even if poor, once you want less and give more, you have abundance,
or you would not have more than enough, to be willing to give.
Even if rich, once you want more and give less, you lack abundance,
or you would not have less than enough, to be unwilling to give.

Those who are giving will never fall short,
while they increase their positive karma.
Those who are wanting already fall short,
while they deplete their positive karma.

What we have and not have is karmically created, deserved and sustained.
Are the karmic seeds we sow the purest possible?

We give and we receive.
We receive and we give.
But if given only an ‘either or’ choice,
it is surely better to give more than to receive more.

不知足者 Those who not know contentment,
常为五欲所牵 are constantly by their five desires led,*
为知足者之所怜悯 by those who know contentment empathised.

- 佛陀 The Buddha
  (遗教经 Sutra Of Bequeathed Teachings)
[*五欲: 财色名食睡 wealth, sex, fame, food, sleep]

Excerpt: A Great Bodhisattva's Buddha Mindfulness Practice

From great Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas on the brink of Buddhahood like Samantabhadra Bodhisattva to once greatly evil but now repentant beings in the deepest hell, and all others in between, including us, there is no one who cannot immeasurably benefit from mindfulness of Amituofo to reach his Pure Land for expediting non-retrogressible progress towards Buddhahood.

Great Power Arrived, the Dharma Prince, with his similar peers of fifty-two Bodhisattvas, immediately rose from their seats, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and said to the Buddha, 'I recollect, in past kalpas ago, as numerous as the Ganges River's sands, there was a Buddha who arose in the world, named "Immeasurable Light". Twelve Tathāgatas arose in succession for one kalpa, and its last Buddha was named "Surpassing Sun And Moon Light". That Buddha taught me the Samādhi from Mindfulness of Buddha.

For example, there are persons, of one focused on recollecting, and one person focused on forgetting. Such two persons, if they come across each other, it is as if they do not come across each other, or if they see each other, it is as if they do not see each other. If these two persons mutually recollect each other, with the duo's mindful recollection being deep, thus, even from life to life, similar to form and shadow, they will not depart from each other. The ten directions' Tathāgatas are sympathetically mindful of sentient beings, like a mother recollecting her child. If the child runs away, although there is recollection, what is the use? If the child recollects the mother, like when the mother recollects the child, the mother and child, in life after life, will not be far away from each other.

If sentient beings' minds recollect the Buddha [Amitābha], and are mindful of the Buddha, now or in the future, they will definitely see the Buddha. With the Buddha not far away, without use of expedient means, they will, by themselves, attain awakening of their minds. Like a person perfumed by incense, whose body has fragrance, this is thus named "Adornment With Fragrance And Light". I, when on the fundamental causal ground, with my mind being mindful of the Buddha, entered the Patience of Non-Birth. Now in this world, I gather those mindful of the Buddha, for return to his Pure Land. The Buddha asked about Perfect Penetration, and I have no other choice, than to gather in the six roots, with pure mindfulness of the Buddha in continuous succession, to attain Samādhi, as this is the foremost method.'
